Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is a generation
and transmission cooperative serving 12
rural electric cooperatives and one municipal
electric cooperative in the state of Iowa.
An electric cooperative is a customer-owned utility
established to provide electric service to rural
America where each customer is a member with special
rights. CIPCO's service territory stretches 300
miles diagonally across the state from the Mississippi
River on the east to Shenandoah in the southwest.
CIPCO's member distribution cooperatives deliver
power to farmsteads, industrial parks, commercial
businesses, urban residences, manufacturers and
much more! Working together, CIPCO and its member
cooperatives provide electrical service to over
311,700 Iowans.
CIPCO is organized as a cooperative which gives
each of its 13 cooperatives membership status
within the organization. As such, a representative
from each of the member cooperatives is elected
to the CIPCO board of directors
which serves as the governing body. The board
of directors of CIPCO in turn selects a Chief
Executive Officer who is responsible for the staffing
and day-to-day operations of CIPCO.
CIPCO supplies all power requirements for its
member systems, and as their power provider CIPCO
is dedicated to delivering quality, reliable service
at the lowest possible cost.
CIPCO's headquarters
are located in Cedar Rapids with Operation Centers
in Creston
and Wilton.
CIPCO employs over 120 people.
