| The 2006 “Powering Iowa
– ” study was produced from an extensive
survey of member cooperatives in the state of Iowa.
This report unveils the economic impact of Iowa’s
electric cooperatives on all of Iowa’s 99 counties.
It is stated that in 2006, electric cooperatives invested
an average of about $16.4 million in power generation
and distribution capacity. Electric cooperatives generated about $1.1 billion of output in the economy,
contributing $17 million to the development of their
communities.
In 2006, Iowa rural electric cooperatives and
their support network managed a $679 million
business that directly affected the jobs of more than
6,900 residents and generated more than $176 million
in local income. Iowa cooperatives invested $11.7 million
in energy efficiency programs and services saving member-
consumers more than $18 million.
